We just finished studying all of the parts of the eye. We learned about the cornea, the lens, as well as other parts. Check out the pictures below. We all had a great time! On the left: Is Jason brave enough to touch the lens? Amyah and Nyayop are encouraging him.

EEEEWWWW Gross!
What is plaque? What are cavities? The 2nd graders have been busy learning about plaque, cavities, enamel, and the parts of the tooth. Brushing your teeth is important, to avoid cavities. The students had a 1st hand experience today when we practiced by brushing the "plaque" off of the "tooth". Hard boiled eggs were soaked in coca cola overnight to create the "plaque" (Yes, we are pretending). The eggs were brown, gross, and disgusting. Each child had a toothbrush, and were told to brush, and clean up the teeth. We all understood the importance of brushing our teeth. Enjoy the photos below:
Angel is scrubbing hard. Get that plaque off, Angel!!! Yeeshai and Jason working on their eggs. Good job, boys! |
Look at my eggs!!!!
Emmanuel and Jason taking turns......
Scrub it off, Shaquille!
Look how hard Matthew and Jaida are working. :)
Say Cheese! That egg was yummy!
Emmanuel enjoying his egg.
I'm not so sure about this.
Oh No! Someone threw a toothbrush in the garbage. My little helpers are determined to find it!
(And they did!!)

We are BLOGGING!!!
I am sooo excited! Our class is now blogging! If you look at the top of this website, at the different websites I posted, you will find a website called kidblog. www.kidblog.com is a neat website where students can blog about school, their favorite food, or whatever they'd like. We just did a simple post today, to introduce the kids to the website. They are so excited. I will try to comment on each child's blog post when they "publish" them. We will do more blogging in school, but I told the kids to feel free to blog from home as well. The more we write, the happier I am!! Enjoy reading the posts and comments on this website!

It's FAIRNESS month! The students are working hard showing good character by acting fair. We are earning our orange stickers, and working hard to earn that orange FAIRNESS character counts bracelet. Check out our silly picture of the class wearing orange today! Yeah -- we have just a little fun in our classroom. =)

Brrrrr!
It is getting colder outside. Soon, the snow will be on the ground. Please make sure your child is coming to school with a warm coat, hat, and gloves. As soon as the snow arrives, boots and snow pants are needed. Now would be a good time to make sure your child has the warmer clothing they will be needing! I am ready for SNOW!!

Parent Teacher conferences
Thank you to everyone who showed up for parent teacher conferences. I had an excellent turnout. It was wonderful to talk to each of you about your child and the great progress they are making in school. My favorite part was seeing some old students that I taught many years ago. I had a 9th grader come to his brother's conference - and I didn't recognize him. Tall, all grown up, and so respectful. He even shook my hand! It just goes to show you that I have the best job in the world. Looking forward to 2nd quarter. We are ready to learn new and exciting things!
If you have any questions about your child's report card, feel free to contact me at school:

Field Trip!!!!
My 2nd grade class was so excited to go on our field trip today. We headed to Peterson, to the Prarie Heritage Center and to Buena Vista County Park. The kids were so excited. On the way there, we went through Linn Grove. The trees were changing color, and were beautiful. Some of the comments on the bus were," Oh, I love it here! I want to go on vacation here! This is so awesome!" Little did they know that their fun was just beginning!
Bows and Arrows? Seriously Mrs. Knapp? You are going to let us do that?
Oh No!!! They forgot to put drinks in our lunches. We made the best of it -- and used a hydrant. The kids thought this was cool!
Who is brave enough to touch the snake? Not Mrs. Knapp! But these kids did!
This pretty much sums up our day!!! Poor Jason!!!!

Another Class Pet?
We have been having fun with our new Science curriculum. We started with our 1st class pet -- GOLDFISH! We studied their structure, their habitats, their needs, and learned a lot of interesting facts about them.
Now, it is time to move on to our next pet. What could it be? Here are some pictures of the students reading clues about their pet.
I heard many guesses... .A frog, a tarantula (NOT IN MY CLASSROOM)... and maybe a bug. Above, Matthew, Hsa Moo, Yeeshai, Alan, and Jack are making their predictions. They are all so excited!
Mrs. Stille (student teacher) is reading the clue out loud. The kids are so excited and listening carefully.

Nyayop: What do you think it is? Angel: A frog? |
